Opened in Fall 2004, Montessori Center for the Child became Richmond's only Southside Montessori preschool!
The preschool offers enrollment for 3-6 year olds and toddlers and follows the philosophy and concepts
of Montessori education.

School Philosophy:
Montessori Center for the Child aims to provide the optimal foundation for children to become lifelong learners.
By tailoring the environment to meet the child's needs, and promoting learning through discovery in a peaceful atmosphere,
we nurture the spirit in each child. Our goals include helping build skills needed for school and home, fostering positive
and courteous social interaction, building self-confidence, utilizing a child's sensitive periods for learning, and providing
an ordered environment where a child can be free to discover on own with minimal intervention. We strive to foster creativity,
curiosity, concentration, and the development of inner security and a positive attitude.
Staff:
We are fortunate to have two certified American Montessori Society teachers on staff. Our assistants also
have experience working in a Montessori classroom. All of our staff members hold Bachelor's Degrees, most of them
in the educational field. Our staff is also required to be trained in CPR and basic first aid.
Facility:
Our school, located on Courthouse Road, was built to host a Montessori classroom. In the interior,
it boasts spacious and child-friendly features. Hardwood floors, many windows (that reach to the child's level),
acoustical ceiling and child-sized facilities are very important to the Montessori classroom. We have
child-friendly garden areas, fields, orchard trees and grounds to accomodate children's need for nature.
There is an outdoor playground currently being renovated, accessible from the classroom.
Tuition:
Sending your child to a wonderful preschool should be positive for the whole family.
We try very hard to keep our tuition rates reasonable for families.
It is our goal to serve the needs of working parents and at-home parents alike.
We do offer limited assistance through sibling discounts, volunteer credit, and employee discounts.
